Bedford, NY Cultural Centers and Historical Landmarks

The Bedford Historical Society, with its home at Historical Hall, began with the purchase of the old Methodist Church at the base of Bates Hill, which was the location of the original meeting house on the edge of the Bedford Village Green. Seven buildings around the Village Green have been acquired, preserved, and protected. The Bedford Historical Society has preserved the historic character of Bedford. 

Bedford, NY's historical treasures maintained by the historical society include:

  • Historical Hall
  • The old one-room stone Schoolhouse
  • Jackson House Library
  • General Store
  • Post Office
  • The Lounsbery Building

The society also maintains:

  • The Court House
  • The Sutton Clock Tower on Guard Hill
  • The prized 500-year-old Bedford Oak at the corner of the Hook Road and the old Bedford Road (now Cantitoe Street, Route 22)
